AI Skills and Pay: How to Evaluate Job-Market Claims
CloudWise Academy · Jul 1, 2026
Start with the work you want to do
Choose a role and location before comparing salaries. Record the responsibilities, required experience, employment type, and published pay range from several current job advertisements. Separate required AI skills from optional skills, and distinguish using an AI tool from building AI software.
Make comparisons carefully
Compare roles with similar responsibilities and seniority. A higher advertised salary does not establish that one skill caused the difference: location, industry, experience, and the scope of the job may also differ. Keep the dates and links with your notes so you can revisit the evidence.
Check a report before repeating its number
Find the original publisher and publication date. Read how the report defines an AI skill, which countries and jobs it covers, and whether its figures describe advertised pay or workers’ actual earnings. A headline percentage should not become a promise about an individual learner’s salary.
Build evidence of useful skills
Pick a practical task in your field, such as drafting a customer response, organizing research, or checking a spreadsheet. Show your starting point, the tool you used, the checks you performed, and the finished result. Explain where human review was needed. A small, well-documented project gives you something concrete to discuss with an employer.
Choose training around a specific goal
Compare the course’s learning objectives, prerequisites, format, and cost with the work you want to practice. Ask what you will create and how you will receive feedback. Review CloudWise Academy’s courses or ask about training for your role.
